The paper inside describes spectacles which belonged to Beyer, physician,
whom together with Benjamin Franklin invented an instrument built out of
glass layers which were struck with small hammers (mallets). This instrument
produced fine and pure sounds, and was named 'Glass Cord'. The instrument
was successfully used at the opera to replace the sounds of the 'magical
Flute' by Mozart.1794 (the Glass Armonica) |
